Carragher: Van Persie and Di Maria There Will Be Starter at Manchester Derby
London – Jamie Carragher predicts Robin van Persie and Angel Di Maria will not get in the starting line-up Manchester United in the Manchester derby. Carragher believes Manchester United will retain the winning team.
Van Persie has returned to practice on Wednesday (08/04/2015) then after recovering from an ankle injury. Dutch striker has been sidelined since 21 February.
“I think he’s not going to be a starter in the Manchester derby. United seems to already have a system that fits with Wayne Rooney is now a mainstay on the front lines,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
Meanwhile, Di Maria has not become a starter again since a red card in the FA Cup match against Arsenal at Old Trafford on 9 March last. He missed the ‘Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, then just be a substitute when his team beat Liverpool 2-1 and Aston Villa 3-1.
“I also think he’s not going to be a starter. Van Gaal showed that when he chose the team and win, then he would pick the same team again,” said Carragher.
“I suspect Di Maria will be start against Liverpool, but they still retain Juan Mata and he (Eye) scored two goals,” said the former Liverpool defender who is now a football analyst.
According Carragher, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will not tamper with the starting XI that had given victory in the last three games. Above reason, he believes Van Persie and Di Maria will not be the starter when Manchester United entertain City at Old Trafford on Sunday (12/04/2015) future.
“With the performance of United at the moment, I think he (Van Gaal) will retain the same team. He seems like the type of coach. He has said that the big name or the price of a player is not important, and at the moment the team is playing good, and I am sure he will defend it, “said Carragher.
